Summary of 2010 NSA Fast Pitch Rule &
Procedural Changes
1. The jewelry rule has been modified as
follows: NSA strongly recommends that players
do not wear jewelry. It will be at the
discretion of the umpire to ask any player to
remove any jewelry that he or she feels is
unsafe. Small stud earrings, metal hair bows,
bobby pens, small plastic wrist bands, and many
other items will now be legal (at the discretion
of the umpire(s)). Official wording of this
major rule change will be posted once available.
2. A batter must pull the bat back from over
the plate during a pitch or the pitch will be
called a strike.
3. The 16U pitching distance will be optional
40ft or 43ft at the state level, but will be at
43ft for the World Series. South & North
Carolina NSA will adopt the 43ft pitching
distance at all parks where the distance can be
changed. Please note that Virginia may remain
at a 40ft pitching distance for 16U, it has not
yet been determined.
4. The 14U pitching distance will be optional
40ft or 43ft at the state level, but will be at
40ft for the World Series. South & North
Carolina NSA will be collecting coaches opinions
regarding which distance to adopt for 2010.
5. A pilot program has been adopted in South
Carolina and Indiana for 10U to move to a 40ft
pitching distance.
